Prohibited Items

Please do NOT bring dogs or other pets, alcohol, drugs, or firearms to the Crestone Solar School campus.

Travel Arrangements

All 3-day workshops begin on Friday morning at 9am and end on Sunday evening at 5 pm. Please plan to arrive on Wednesday afternoon/evening to get yourself set up for camping. A light evening meal will be provided on Wednesday. Or, depending on your travel situation, you may wish to arrive early on Thursday morning. Departures can occur on Sunday evening or on Monday morning when a light breakfast will be provided.

Crestone is a 4-hour drive from Denver. Daily bus service is available to Moffat on Greyhound (link) / Express Arrow (link) ($37, departs 1:45, arrives 6 pm) and then a taxi service is available to Crestone through Windhorse Transportation (719-256-4091; keithchd@gmail.com). Please confirm schedules and cost as these change often.

Housing and Meals

On-site outdoor camping accommodations, bathroom/shower facilities, and all meals are provided. Dogs

For off-site accommodations, please check AirBnB, VRBO, and the Crestone Website for options and availability.

What to Bring

Suggested list of items to bring with you:

•    Waterproof tent, ground cloth
•    Sleeping bag,  pad and pillow
•    Personal water bottle
•    Cushion to sit on
•    Flashlight (no candles)
•    Umbrella and rain jacket
•    Insect repellent/bug spray
•    Sunscreen for high altitude
•    Toilet articles and towel
•    Calculator
•    Notebook, pens and sticky notes/li>
•    Work clothes and sun hat
•    Sunglasses for 8000 ft altitude
•    Hiking boots or equivalent
•    Cool evenings jacket
•    Whistle
•    Bowl, plate, cup and eating utensils and cloth napkin.

How to Prepare

Please review high school math fractions, and become familiar with how they operate. We will work a lot with the principle of fractions as we learn and practice the units of energy. Using these basic building blocks is where some participants have gotten slowed down a bit in previous workshops.
Be prepared!

It will be helpful if you read through all or at least some of Paul’s articles about solar applications. You will find them under “Paul’s Solar Articles” under the Resources tab at the top of the website.
